Spring has sprung and romance is in the air! No where is that more evident than in the top trends for 2014 Spring Weddings.
The look is romantic, lush and old world. The food is fun, interactive and spicy.
The Look
The recent trend of vintage rustic is turning toward one of vintage elegance. Think chandeliers, gold accents and sparkle with crystals and pearls. Brides are in love with the fun and easy elegance of the roaring 20’s thanks to the Great Gatsby.
Start with a venue that already has elegant bones such as a beautifully appointed ballroom or an historic mansion. Add upscale table overlays, gold chargers and gold rimmed china to complete the table.
The Decor
The flowers are lush with a bit more color than the blush trend of last year. Out is the wildflower look and it has been replaced with slightly more formal arrangements.
Deeper pinks and corals and soft purples are showing up in the form of garden roses, peonies and hydrangeas. We are also seeing loads of mercury glass in both gold and silver, crystal pedestals and silver vases.
The Food
2014 is the year to go spicy. Sriracha and bacon are this year’s darlings. Interactive food stations are popular as they can give your guests some interesting options and get them to mingle. Think about incorporating them in the cocktail hour with fun “small plate” stations like sliders or sushi.
After a more formal seated dinner, your guest will love getting up and moving around for candy bars, s’more stations or ice cream sundae bars.
Local foods are also rising in popularity. Think about what’s in season and locally sourced and have it prepared as old school family favorites.
The Cake
Cakes are going in two directions: naked or glittering. The trend of uniced or naked cakes garnished with fresh fruit and flowers is one side of the scale and wonderful for a lower key garden event. The flip side is bling and glitter with a lot of metallic finishes showing up at more formal weddings.
For flavor, brides are going seasonal with lemon cakes with accents of fresh berries for spring and summer and saving the heavier chocolate cakes for the cooler months.
The Fun
Photo booths are still popular and now you are seeing a new option: the slow motion video booth. For outdoor weddings couples are bringing out their favorite backyard games to entertain their guests. Bocce ball, croquet, ladder ball and even Cornhole bean bag toss are making an appearance at spring weddings.
If you are having a more formal affair, big bands are making a comeback complete with horn sections.
The Social Aspect
Don’t forget your custom hashtag! Couples are using signs and table cards to let guests in on their custom Instagram hashtag so all the guests photos are easy to find. (#nickandnora for example)
As with all trends, not every one is for you. Pick the ones that fit your style and budget and give your spring 2014 wedding an up to the monet twist.
